Welcome to Ms. Powers' Homeroom!
I am excited to be your child's 4th grade homeroom teacher. My room is where your student will come to at the beginning of their day. We will go on most of the fourth grade field trips together, study Colorado, and participate in the science fair. They will also be with me for math. We will begin our second year with our new curriculum, Bridges. Students will work on multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, and some algebra.
This is the social
contract
Ms. Powers's
class has created together and agreed to follow. Should the contract be broken they will receive consequences as shown on the chart.

Bridges Math
Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach, and I am a firm believer that everyone can become a great mathematician through perseverance. I believe that a strong math understanding comes from hands on work, exploration of materials, going in depth, making mistakes, and sharing and exploring your own and others thinking. There is always more to learn about any math concept, and anyone can succeed.
We will be working on fractions for the remainder of the second quarter. We will be focusing on: imporper fractions, mixed numbers, equivalent fractions, and decimals. This can be a trick topic, so any extra time on IXL or Kahn Academy should be spent on fractions. It would also be great if you could point out where we use fractions or decimals in everyday life as you come upon them. They truely are everywhere!
