Welcome to Ms. Nielsen's 4th grade web page! I am so excited to be back at BES for my 6th year teaching fourth grade! Originally from Littleton, CO, I grew up visiting my grandparents who lived in Snowmass. I love living in the Roaring Fork Valley and enjoy many outdoor activities including hiking, cross country skiing, and soaking in the beautiful sunshine and views of the Rocky Mountains! I also enjoy doing yoga, reading, walking my dog and sidekick Rigby, and watching the Denver Broncos win!
4th grade is such an exciting year at BES, being the last year of elementary school! We go on many adventures in the community and learn A LOT! In my classroom, you should expect to see students working and learning together on many hands-on activities that are engaging. I create a high energy community where students feel safe and comfortable to grow and thrive with their peers. Scroll down for more information about what we our learning and what is happening in our class! Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have questions or concerns. [email protected] 384-5817 The best way to get ahold of me is by email. I try to check my voicemail once a day, but will get back to email very quickly. Specials This week:
Monday 9/18- ACES Tuesday 9/19- Library Wednesday 9/20- Art Thursday 9/21- PE Friday 9/22- Music Reminders:
Please call the school office (384-5800) if you need to tell your students important information that is time sensitive (how to get home, etc. ) That information will get to me right away! It is much better than calling my classroom phone. Important Dates: 9/19- Picture Day 9/21- Parents Night 10/26 Rock Bottom Ranch Field Trip Home Work
As per the new BES homework policy, I do not assign reading logs or assigned reading every night. I do encourage students to read with their parents and family members each night. A suggested amount of time would be about 20 minutes a night, but feel free to read more! We will discuss reading in class. The goal is to create a love of reading for all students instead of making it a required task. Math: Three pages of math homework will be assigned on Monday and due the following Monday. These pages will include practice of skills we are learning in class as well as reflection sheets to incorporate higher level thinking and writing into mathematics. Students are encouraged to teacher their parents what they are learning and the "new way" of math. |
